Chromebooks might not be the most feature-rich tech gadgets around but the HP Chromebook 11 G5 sits in the middle of a bunch packing some high-end features. The HP Chromebook 11 G5 is tailored to meet the needs of students and frequent business travelers. The budget-friendly device boasts of an optional touchscreen, narrow display bezels, a slimmed-down design with thinner and lighter dimensions. The most outstanding feature of Chromebooks is their battery life and the HP 11 G5 stays true to this cause by offering up to 12.5 hours of battery life.

Design and Features
The HP Chromebook is not exactly a High-end PC, but it is a slick, streamlined piece of kit nonetheless. The Chromebook features an all-plastic casing which does flex and creak when one adjusts the screen or pick it up one-handed. It measures 0.72 inches thick and weighs 2.6 pounds thus making it reasonably light and portable. As such, you can carry it all day long in you backpack without being overburdened by its presence.
The HP Chromebook 11 G5 is powered by the N3060 Braswell processor running at 1.6GHz. The processor is capable of handling everyday tasks such as streaming media, web browsing and editing of documents. This is not the fastest processor in the market neither is it the slowest but it works towards achieving power efficiency.
The system is also coupled with 4GB DDR3L-1600 SDRAM that is enough at this price and category. The installed memory is enough to combine with the processor to handle everyday tasks. Additionally, the memory is not upgradeable since it is soldered on the motherboard. The installed memory is enough for multitasking thus its hardly possible for anyone to want to increase the memory at any point. The combination works pretty well in handling basic browsing and everyday tasks. It however strains when tasked with pushing a full HD display.
In terms of storage, the HP Chromebook comes with just 16GB of storage space on a eMMC drive. The Flash drive is not as faster as a SSD but at least does offer a better service than a HDD in terms of speed. It is no doubt that this pace is barely enough for many users. Luckily, Google has a back-up plan that is worth every penny. Google allows users to purchase 100GB of storage within 180 days of purchase through Google Drive for 2 years without incurring any additional costs.
The HP Chromebook 11 G5 features an integrated Intel HD Graphics 400 Card. The GPU is enough to handle browser graphics, run mobile games and stream HD content without freezing. As such, it is clear that this is not a gaming laptop so any serious game is destined to fail. However, playing less demanding games such as Modern combat 5 online will go smoothly with framerates of up to 60.
The HP Chromebook 11 G5 packs the most necessary Input and output ports. It features to USB 3.0 ports that are enough for connecting external devices such as a HDD and a mouse. There is an HDMI output port for extending the display to larger screens such as Monitors and HDTVs. The Chromebook also comes with a Digital Media Reader and an Audio combo jack. The option in here are enough for any travel enthusiast, student or home user for day to day multimedia needs.
Internet connectivity is available through the latest Intel 7265 dual band (2×2), 802.11ac wireless card. The adapter offers faster download speeds, better signal quality and less latency as opposed to previous generations. There is also built-in Bluetooth 4.2 technology for easy syncing and pairing the Chromebook with other devices.
The 11.6-inch LED HD UWVA (ultra-wide viewing angle) HD display comes with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. The device is among HP’s pioneer Chromebooks with an option to upgrade to a touchscreen. Users will find the touchscreen useful for many touch-enabled chrome and android apps in the Play Store. The touch is very responsive and smooth. The screen is however, glossy such that you will have a hard time working under sunlight but then the viewing angles are great. The screen is decently bright and there is nothing out of the ordinary. Important to note is that there is an optional upgrade to a Gorilla Glass-protected touchscreen for the 11.6-inch IPS display. The display offers sharp characters with a bright screen and vivid colors due to the presence of the IPS technology.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The laptop has a decent keyboard with some travel distance despite the fact it feels clicky. Typing on this keyboard is not as enjoyable as when using premium laptops but it gets the job done. However, the slightly wobbly keys and clacky sound produced by the keyboard might be disturbing when typing. The trackpad comes with a smooth surface that is oil resistant thus making it fit for such a Chromebook.
Chromebooks are known for their stellar battery life performance and The HP Chromebook is no exception. The device packs a 2-cell, 44 Whr Li-Ion battery that is capable of running up to 12 hours and 30 minutes. Now that is enough juice to take you all day while working in the office without having to connect the charging adapter. The long battery life makes the HP Chromebook a great companion for road warriors on a business trip or catching a long flight.
The HP Chromebook offers great value for users after a basic web browsing machine. It does not offer you the flexibility of a Mac or PC but if all you care about is working on web apps, it is the machine for you. If you need a better display than the 768p provided, then having a look at the HP Chromebook 13 G1 might be a better option as it comes with a resolution of 3200×1800 pixels.
