The ASUS F556UA AS54 is a reasonably priced laptop featuring a dual core Intel Core i5 processor that is powerful to handle all power tasks thrown at it.

PROS: 1080 display. Plenty of port selection. Modest 8GB RAM and a 256 GB Solid State Drive
CONS: Mediocre battery life. Non-touchscreen. Poor viewing angles


Asus have demystified the believe that a powerful laptop ought to be expensive with the entry of ASUS F556UA-AS54 laptop, a mid-priced laptop with high-end features that rivals those already in the market such as the latest  HP 15-ay011nr and HP 15-ay013nr with similar features save for the difference in terms of storage.

There is 8GB DDR3L SD RAM system memory on board that is adequate four multitasking and a 256 GB SSD for storage that offers fast boot times and launching of programs. The SSD also reads and writes files faster compared to the standard hard drive.

The laptop comes pre-installed with 64-bit Windows 10 operating system that offers excitingly new programs such as Cortana that users will find helpful in their day to day use.

The inclusion of an IPS panel could have made the display nicer for wide viewing angles. There is also an Integrated HD 520 Graphics Card with shared memory that provides above average performance for handling less demanding games.

The non-backlit keyboard features Asus IceCool Technology that offers comfortable typing experience and a Smart Gesture Multitouch pad for smooth and easy navigation. The inclusion of Asus SonicMaster improves the audio clarity and offers powerful output with deeper bass and louder volumes.

There is a non-replaceable 38WHr lithium polymer battery that lasted 6 hours and 29 minutes on our test slightly better than what we saw in the HP 15-ay013nr which lasted 5 hrs and 37 minutes. Considering the fact that this is a desktop-replacement laptop, the battery life is understandably okay at its price.


The ASUS F556UA -AS54 is a decent laptop with premium looks that offers great performance having combined some promising features at a pocket friendly price. The 1920 x 1080 pixels Full HD display is a plus compared to what we saw in the 15.6 inch ASUS F555LA-EH51 that comes with 1366 x 768 pixels.
