Acer Chromebook 11 CB3-131-C3SZ Laptop Review

The Acer Chromebook CB3-131-C3SZ is a portable chrome OS based laptop with a long lasting battery and enough features and performance for basic tasks.

PROS: Relatively inexpensive. Excellent screen. Long battery life
CONS: No optical drive. Chrome OS limitations. Small keyboard

The Acer Chromebook 11 CB3-131-C3SZ laptop suffices as an entry level laptop based on Chrome OS targeting users mainly interested in getting to the internet.

The Laptop features an entry level Intel Celeron N2840 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB SSD of Internal storage that is faster compared to the mechanical hard drives.

The chrome OS in this laptop offers a fast and responsive experience for its users with a long battery life that guarantees around 9 hours of work time. Despite of having a small screen size and the chrome OS that limits users, this is a great budget laptop ideal for users after surfing the internet, word processing and emailing.

The Acer Chromebook 11 is made of all plastic with a decent build quality featuring a nano-imprint patterning technology, creating refined, textured, tactile patterning for a distinctive and attractive appearance. It measures 8 x 11.6 x 0.7 inches and weighs 2.4 pounds.

The Chromebook is small and light enough to slide into the backpack easily without feeling its presence. Add the battery capacity to its portability, and you have a travelling companion that takes up to 10 hours before you can plug it in for charging with moderate use.

The Chromebook is powered by a 3rd generation dual core Intel Celeron N2840 processor that allows the device to boot up in a record 11 seconds but is likely to stutter if demanding tasks are thrown at it.

However, it handles well the light day to day tasks such as web browsing, editing of documents, and emailing without slowing down. It also comes with 2 GB of RAM that is adequate for the smooth running of apps from Play Store. There is 16GB of internal storage on a Solid State Drive (SSD) that is fast and power efficient.

The storage space is limited and the Chromebook knows this better by providing an extra 100GB of free online storage through Google Drive. As such, you have enough space to keep all your files, documents, photos, music and videos that are accessible from anywhere in the world so long as you are online.

In terms of connectivity, the Chromebook features a one USB 3.0 Port and a USB 2.0 port to connect it to other devices and peripherals. There is also an SD card reader and an HDMI port for extending the display to larger screens such as HDTV, projector or monitor to watch movies or for a power point presentation.

For internet connectivity, the Chromebook is well packed with the latest 802.11ac WiFi with MIMO technology that gets you to the internet fast and with a great signal strength. Bluetooth 4.0 allows you to connect with other compatible devices to share and transfer data without the use of a cable.

There is an HD camera above the display that is clear enough for handling video chatting through Skype with family and friends.

The 11.6-inch Chromebook comes with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels with an IPS LED-backlit HD display. The IPS anti-glare screen offers wide viewing angles and makes it so comfortable working with the Chromebook as the screen is clear for easy reading of text and great in watching movies in HD.

The screen is not touch enabled, but then if that is the deal breaker then you may find the Acer Chromebook R11 Convertible, 11.6″ HD Touch more appealing and satisfying as it comes with touch but this definitely pushes the price upwards.

The Acer Chromebook CB3-131-C3SZ is a lightweight and compact laptop capable of providing all day productivity with a premium feel and look. The Laptop fits into the life of a user who appreciates using Chrome OS and doing everything online using google apps such as YouTube, Gmail, Google+, Hangouts, Search and Google docs for light day to day tasks.

The system works quietly since the laptop has no fan and moving parts. If you find the 2GB of RAM insufficient to handle all your daily tasks, other systems such as the ASUS Chromebook C202SA-YS02 11.6-Inch laptop has the option of a 4GB RAM.

It is also portable enough as it features a light SSD compared to the mechanical HDD and it is snappier with an extended battery life. The 100GB cloud based storage supplements the 16GB internal storage provided thereby making the storage capacity sufficient.

The Chromebook feels safe with the automatic software and security updates.  If you are after a light an affordable Chromebook that gets the work done be it in school at home or in the office, then you may want to consider the Acer Chromebook CB3-131-C3SZ.
