The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG is a new entry to the Aspire family that promises to offer decent performance at an affordable price.
The laptop improves on speed and power where the previous models had failed to stay up to the test without hitting hard on the buyers pockets and it succeeds.
The Acer Aspire packs a 2.3 GHz 6th-gen dual core Intel Core i5-6200U processor with Turbo Boost up to 2.8GHz. It also includes 8 GB DDR4 SDRAM that is expandable to 32GB and 256 GB of storage. The 256 GB SSD strikes a balance between users after plenty of space and those after a fast SSD unit.
The laptop also features a NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics with a dedicated 2GB of DDR5 memory. This is not a gaming laptop but gamers will find it decent enough in handling casual games given that it is a budget laptop.
The E5-575G-53VG runs on the latest Windows 10 Home operating system on 64-bit for optimal computing performance for both working and playing. The laptop packs enough power to handle average to demanding day to day tasks including surfing the internet, editing documents, photo editing, video editing and emailing.
The Aspire E5-575G-53VG is made of plastics, with glossy finish on the keyboard deck and textured finish on the display lid. It packs nothing out of the ordinary with its design that is common in regular laptops with its Obsidian Black color.
The laptop measures 15 x 10.2 x 1.2 inches and weighs 5.3 pounds. The laptop is a bit heavy compared to the competitors such as the Asus F555UA and the HP Notebook 15 that both weigh 4.88 pounds. This is rather heavy to carry all day but then it can slide into your backpack for office or school use and then carry it back home at the end of the day.
The Acer Aspire is powered by an Intel Core i5-6200U processor clocked at 2.3GHz of dual core power. It can run up to 2.8GHz with Turbo Boost Technology. It also combines 8GB of RAM expandable to 32GB and a 256GB SSD for fast boot times and loading of programs.
This features does not make the Acer aspire the most powerful laptop out there, but it has the oomph needed to handle all tasks including midrange gaming. The system is capable of multitasking such as streaming videos in YouTube, Amazon, Twitch, Hulu and Netflix while playing music at the same time without slowing down.
The highlight point of the Aspire E5-575G-53VG is in its Nvidia 940MX discrete graphics card with 2GB Memory. Game enthusiasts will find this Graphics card useful as the machine is capable of offering decent gaming to a number of games.
For instance, the Acer handles less demanding games such as Heroes of the storm, Overwatch and Marvel Heroes well without slowing down. The Acer was unable to run demanding games such as the Witcher III 4K but overall the discrete graphics card is a huge advantage in handling less demanding games.
In terms of connectivity, the Aspire E5-575G-53VG features one 2.0USB port and two 3.0 USB ports for connecting other devices. The laptop includes the latest USB Type C connector and a VGA Video-out connector. There is an HDMI port for extending your display to larger screens such as projectors or monitors.
There is an SD card reader and a writable DVD drive included so you don’t have to worry if you want to use your CDs and DVDs. Internet connectivity comes by way of Wi-Fi 802.11 A/C that offers fast connecting speeds to the internet. There is also an RJ-45 port for Ethernet LAN wired internet connection.
The laptop features the latest Bluetooth 4.1 for fast Bluetooth transfer speeds.
The 15.6 inch display laptop comes with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels which is decent enough to get the job done. The non-touchscreen laptop supports IPS technology that offers wide viewing angles. The Full HD screen offers sharp picture quality and more desktop space compared to the standard 1366×768 HD panels for opened programs.
The 720HD webcam in the Aspire E5-575G-53VG is not good enough for taking photos. The colors seem fairly accurate but the photos taken in brightly lit room appear blurry and flurry. The camera can however come in handy when it comes to casual Skype conversations with friends and family.
The laptop comes with a full-sized keyboard with only 1.65mm of key travel and 58-gram actuation. Typing on this laptop is profoundly uncomfortable hence it is not the best machine for a user who primarily intends to use it for word processing. The touchpad on the other hand is well sized at 4.1 x 3.0-inches but it is very rubbery and too resistant. It takes time to move the cursor across the desktop and the touchpad feels shallow when clicking.
The 6-cell Li-Ion (2800 mAh) Battery in the Aspire E5-575G-53VG is considerably good in its price range. The laptop lasted 9hours and 43 minutes on our battery run down test which involved surfing the internet through Wi-Fi.
This is far much better compared to the Asus F555UA-EH71 that offers 5:39 and the HP Notebook which offers 5:51. As such, the laptop can serve you all day while out in the field or travelling without having to plug it in for charging.
The laptop comes with two built-in stereo speakers with clear audio, deep sounds and less audio distortions thanks to Acer’s TrueHarmony technology. As such, you will enjoy listening to music, watching movies or having a video call with the laptop as the audio is clear and audible.
The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG is a fairly decent laptop with promising features and performance. This is not a premium powerhouse, so you should keep your expectations in check especially for serious gamers. Most users will be comfortable with its Intel Core i5-6200U processor, 8GB of DDR4 SDRAM, and 256GB SSD.
The inclusion of Nvidia GeForce 940M 2 GB GPU is also a welcome feature for casual gamers and in offering good display quality. All said, the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG is a good choice that does not go heavy on your pockets while offering a powerful performance.
