The Dell Inspiron I3558-10000BLK is a mid-range entry level laptop that comes with standard specifications and features for everyday use. The laptop comes on board with an Intel Core i5-5200U mobile 2.2 GHz CPU processor, 6 GB RAM internal memory, 15.6-inch LED touch screen display with 1366 x 768 HD resolution, Intel HD Graphics 5500 controller chipset, and a large 1 TB SATA hard disk storage drive. The features packed in this budget laptop allows it to perform a day to day tasks without slowing down as some might think. The home and officer user who wants to stream videos, movies, surf the web, edit documents and emailing can comfortably count on this rig.
The Inspiron measures 15 x 10.2 x 0.9 inches and weighs 4.8 pounds, which some might consider to be bulky. However, it works well as a desktop replacement laptop so you can occasionally get to pack it and walk around with it. Laptops in this price range are not any lighter. Essentially, this is a jack of all trades when it comes to its portability as it can serve both as a stationary or a mobile companion without breaking your back. It comes with a 4-cell battery that can offer up to 7 hours of usage which is fairly good at this price range to handle your tasks before plugging in.
The Dell Inspiron is powered by the 5th generation Intel Core i5-5200U which is a dual-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz and can run up to 2.7 GHz with Turbo boost. It includes 6GB of DDR3L SDRAM expandable to 8GB that offers it the power to handle day to day computing efficiently. The Intel core i5-5200U processor is not as fast as the latest 7th generation processor we have seen in some machines like the ASUS F55GUA-AB54. The storage space provided in the Inspiron is not any interesting, it offers a massive 1 TB hard drive which is good for ample storage but is slow. This is however something you can replace with a faster SSD which offers quick loading of programs and boot times. You can as well go for the HP 15-ay013nr laptop which comes with a 128GB solid state drive for faster speeds.
The Dell Inspiron does not sit pretty on the gaming platform, it far from being one. It packs an Intel HD 5500 integrated graphics chip which surely cannot offer any decent gaming save for the lighter ones such as Warcraft. Attempting to play games like GTA 5 at low it will give quite a poor 25 FPS even when the settings are low. It will be advisable to go for a much better rig even if it costs more, it is worth the investment. If still on a budget and not ready to go for a dedicated gamer, some systems such as the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG could come in handy as it comes with a dedicated NVIDIA Geforce 940MX with 2GB video memory. It also has a full HD display and it is powered by a 6th gen Intel core i5-6200u that is also much better.
The laptop features all standard connectivity options including a two USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port for faster connectivity with other peripherals. Video output is brought to you by a full-sized HDMI that serves well individuals who want to connect the netbook to an extra monitor. It also comes at handy for your entertainment purposes back at home by connecting your HDTV to watch your movies in a bigger screen. There is a DVD burner in this unit, which is a traditional feature that might not be of much use to you. It is 2017, and people are downloading programs and other utilities right off the internet and using hard drives to transfer content hence rendering the DVD burners less useful. There is a SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot to use with your camera memory cards. You can as well use it to increase the storage but in this netbook it will work well in transferring files. Network connectivity is supported by 10/100Mbps Ethernet LAN, wireless 802.11 ac and Bluetooth 4.0.
The 15.6 inch display laptop supports a maximum resolution of 1366×768 pixels LED-Backlit display which is good for 720p content. It is however disappointing that this touchscreen laptop does not come with a full HD display as we saw in the 2017 Newest Dell Inspiron 15.6″ FHD Touchscreen Signature Laptop but this is normal for budget priced laptops. The display surely responds to touch, but it won’t rotate past ~180 degrees, so no tablet mode here. There is also a 720p webcam on the top bezel of the display that works well with video conferencing and chatting with friends and family via skype.
The laptop comes with a full sized non-backlit keyboard, it has a good key travel that makes it comfortable when typing. There is a 10-key numeric pad that comes in handy when you are playing with numbers. It comes with a standard multi-touch touchpad located just below the keyboard which is also responsive. The laptop has two built-in speakers based on MaxxAudio technology that offers a loud and clear sound for listening to your favorite music and watching movies. The laptop is pre-installed with windows 10 with user friendly features like Cortana that offers an enjoyable user experience.
The Dell Inspiron I3558-10000BLK is an affordable laptop with decent performance for everyday use. The laptop features an Intel core i5-5200U which works fairly well on this machine coupled with 6GB of RAM for every day computing. The laptop comes with a touchscreen which is not a necessity for windows 10 to work well. A Full HD display could have been appreciated more than the touchscreen on the 1366×768 display. It is also not good for gaming as it comes with an Intel HD 5500 integrated Graphics unit that can’t handle many recent game titles. At this point upgrading to a better system such as the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-53VG is unavoidable. All said, the Dell Inspiron I3558-10000BLK is for an average user whose expectations are in check on a tight budget.
