Dell H1CH6 OptiPlex 7440 23.8″ AIO Desktop Review

Dell has been on the move towards helping their commercial and enterprise segment and their workplace to get future-ready. Dell recently refreshed its OptiPlex commercial PC family with significant upgrades. This comes in the name of the Dell H1CH6 OptiPlex 7440, which is a decent All-In-One desktop that comes with a 6th generation Intel Core i5-6600 processor, 8GB of RAM and a fast 256 GB Solid State Drive. The desktop comes in a black chassis without any decorative adornments thereby giving it a basic look. However its performance and price is not as basic since it houses a powerful processor that will get your day to day tasks done. It is that kind of an AIO desktop that you will be happy to have in your office. There are a number of OptiPlex AIO configurations offered by Dell that are up and down the price band. It is all up to you to find the most suitable configuration depending on how deep you are willing to go into your pockets.

Design

The OptiPlex 7440 sports a black color and it measures 15.5 by 22.6 by 2.5 inches (HWD) and weighs 15.9 pounds. The AIO desktop does not flaunt any fancy or elegance but keeps a humble look just like the Lenovo ThinkCentre E93z. It comes with a basic height adjustable stand but you have the option of going for an articulating stand. The stand stick, black with a brushed matte finish and it is adjustable allowing you to view the monitor at a slight angle. The monitor can also be swiveled to switch between portrait and Landscape modes.

Performance

The OptiPlex 7440 is powered by sixth generation Intel Core i5-6600 processor coupled with integrated HD Graphics 530 that combine to offer a solid a performance. The quad-core CPU does not support the thread-doubling Hyper-threading feature, clocked at 3.3GHz that can run up to 3.9GHz with Turbo boost. The powerful combination makes the OptiPlex a good candidate for handling multimedia without slowing down.  The system comes with 8GB of DDR4 memory that many users will find sufficient in handling most of their tasks. In terms of storage, the AIO desktop includes a speedy M.2 256GB solid state drive that uses the PCI Express interface replacing the ordinary SATA. This is not much plenty space to store all your collections but you can be assured that your programs will launch faster and the desktop will boot quickly.

Connectivity

Connectivity options in the OptiPlex 7440 include four USB 3.0 ports for connection with devices such as hard drives for speed and two USB 2.0 for connecting other peripherals such as mice and keyboards. There is an Ac adapter jack, a headphone jack and a smart card reader. An HDMI output port and a DisplayPort connector are also available for extending your display to larger screens. There is an optical drive on the right edge for use with your CDs and DVs, a sleep button, power button and two buttons for control of the screen brightness. Security for the system has been heightened with the inclusion of a chassis lock slot and a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2. An Ethernet port is also available for faster and reliable cabled internet connection. For wireless connectivity, you get dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1.

Display

The screen on the OptiPlex 7440 is a big win thus one of its main selling points. The 23.8-inch panel features a screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 that is bright and crisp with an antiglare coating. This is the first of its kind in an all-in-one business desktop. It utilizes In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology to offer wide viewing angles with videos looking excellent on the screen. There is a 2MP Full HD camera at the top bezel of the display that is good for video conferencing and chatting with friends and family via skype. The screen is surrounded by a thick black bezel that denies the OptiPlex that gorgeous look. We could expect a sleeker configuration considering the fact that bezels are shrinking in most HDTVs and vanishing on laptops like in Dell’s own XPS 13. There is an LED under the screen that blinks when the monitor is on sleep mode and glows steadily when it is awake.

Other Features

The OptiPlex 24 7440 is also bundled with a wireless mouse and keyboard abandoning the wired set, which is a step toward the right direction. The keys on the keyboard are comfortable to type on and there is a dedicated number pad for your accounting tasks. The mouse comes with an optical sensor and has a basic design. The integrated speakers on the OptiPlex are fairly robust. The system does not have a subwoofer so the sound is tiny but clear enough without any distortion even at maximum volume. We did not expect much in terms of sound considering that it is a business PC but it is loud enough to fill a small room.

Conclusion

The Dell OptiPlex 7440 is a powerful and reliable AIO business desktop that will get to handle the tasks that matter in your workplace without stuttering.  The system comes with a fast Intel core i5 processor along with 8GB of RAM and speedy Solid state drive with enough ports at your disposal to meet all your needs. The system handle multimedia tasks admirably and sports more screen space with a high resolution display that many users will find useful. The upgrade in performance of the Dell OptiPlex 7440 gives it an edge over the other competitors such as the HP EliteOne 800, thereby worth your consideration.
