The good news for consumers is that the mid-range laptops keep getting better while keeping their prices lower than ever. A case in point is the HP 15-ay011nr full HD laptop that comes with an excellent specification sheet that prospective buyers will find satisfactory. The notebook cuts across both the light and heavy users with tis well-rounded features. The laptop features a full HD anti-glare display, 6th generation Intel core i5 6200U 2.3GHz dual-core processor, 8GB DDR3L-SDRAM, Intel 520 HD graphics and 1TB 5400 Hard Drive. The laptop is empowered to do more than the daily basic tasks with the power to handle multitasking while remaining speedy and efficient.

Design

The HP 15-ay011nr sports a modern and slick look with its aluminum finish and a polished metal design. The laptop measures 10.02 x 15.12 x 0.95 inches and weighs 4.7 pounds. Its slim design and lightweight makes it a good companion for those interested in working while on the go. It also fits well into the life of individuals handling different tasks while outdoors such as internet surfing or casual gaming. The portability is backed up by a decent battery that gives you enough juice to handle all your tasks. The full HD backlit system lasted for 4hours and 56 minutes, which is a triumph for laptops in this category. It outdid its counterpart the Lenovo Edge 15  that lasted 4 hours and 39 minutes.

Performance

The HP 15-ay011nr boasts of the 6th generation Intel Core i5-6200U processor with two cores, 2.3GHz clock speed and a turbo of 2.8GHz. The unit packs enough power to handle demanding tasks with a mid-range score of 3900 in CPU Mark benchmark. The system memory comes with 8GB of RAM which is enough for the smooth running of the system. The memory is upgradable to 16GB, however most users will find the 8GB embedded enough for all their computing needs. The laptop comes with a massive 1TB hard drive for ample storage of all your documents. However, if you are up to speed, the HP 15-ay013nr takes care of you. It comes with a 128GB SSD while maintaining all the other features. In short, HP is conscious enough to take care of both users, those after space and those interested in a speedy drive.

The laptop might not suffice as a first choice for game enthusiasts or for running strongly parallelized applications. It is capable of handling all the power demanding programs such as Adobe Photoshop and common home and office computing. If you are after more power, then considering the HP pavilion ab292nr  with Intel Core i7 will get you sorted.

The HP 15-ay011nr comes with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 based on the skylake architecture. The graphics unit offers solid images on the screen with sharper and clearer details. The chip has a smooth multi-tasking ability good for streaming and video playback. This is not a gaming monster as the integrated Intel HD 520 graphics card shares memory with the CPU and RAM. This can handle some casual gaming such as GTA 5 at 25fps played on normal and a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. For an ultimate gaming experience with high quality, then you will have to look elsewhere. The Acer Aspire E 15 is a good choice for gaming in this price category thanks to its NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU and a dedicated 2GB RAM.

Connectivity

The laptop comes with two USB 2.0 ports and 3.0 USB port for connecting to other devices and peripherals. We expected more USB 3.0 ports but then again we cannot complain considering this is a budget priced laptop. It features a media card reader, and a combo headphones / microphone audio port to listen to your music comfortably. There is an HDMI port do that you can extend your display to larger screens or smart TVs to watch your movies in high definition. The laptop features a built-in DVD burner, a feature that most manufactures are phasing out with their latest releases. Networking options include 802.11ac WiFi plus Bluetooth 4.0 adapter and 100Mbps RJ-45 port to get you connected to Internet. The WiFi a/b/g/n/ac antenna, with a compatible router, can deliver much faster internet connection compared to the standard b/g/n antennas.

Display

The 15.6 inch WLED-Backlit display comes with a Full HD 1920×1080-pixel resolution and anti-glare technology. The Full HD display on the laptop offers sharp picture quality compared to the standard 1366×768 screens. It lacks the IPS screen for wider viewing angles, but we are okay with the TN panel considering its price. The laptop offers middle-of the road performance while keeping its price affordable.

Other Features

The laptop comes with a non-backlit keyboard with keys that provide a satisfying click and a pleasant soft feel. It comes with a nice touchpad and a full numeric pad. The HP 15-ay011nr packs the DTS Studio Sound technology which delivers an immersive premium sound and a rich audio. As such, you will enjoy watching your movies, listening to music or even playing games with some loud and quality sound.

Conclusion

The HP 15-ay011nr is a decent laptop that offers value for the money with a powerful processor, enough RAM and a Full HD screen. The laptop comes with an excellent build quality and texture that gives it a premium look with a cooling fan. It also has neatly curved edges and indicating lights for Caps Lock, mute buttons, charging port, and LAN port.  The laptop is keen on offering a powerful performance for basic computing and multi-tasking needs. It can as well play casual games and some complex games in lower setting. If you are a game enthusiast, then this is not your kind of laptop. Consider looking for the Dell Inspiron  with a fast SSD and Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M GPU and of course you have to adjust your budget upwards. All said, the  15-ay011nr is an excellent for day to day computing needs. However, its brother, the HP 15-ay013nr is preferable thanks to its Solid state hard drive for solid performance.
